Distria Krasniqi becomes leader in world ranking

Kosovo’s judoka Distria Krasniqi has managed to take the first position in the world ranking of the category of up to 52 kilograms.

Until now, she was second in the ranking after Chelsie Giles from Great Britain, but in the new ranking published by the International Judo Federation, she holds the first position, with 7275 points, while Giles is second with 7010 points.

This achievement for Distria Krasniqi comes after she was placed fifth in the World Championships, gaining 720 new points in the world ranking.

Distria in “Tokyo 2020” won the Olympic gold medal, and it aims to repeat the same success in the “Paris 2024” Olympics.

In the new ranking, Nora Gjakova has moved up by two positions and is now ranked sixth in the category up to 57 kg, while Laura Fazliu has fallen by two positions and is ranked 13th in the category up to 63 kilograms. Loriana Kuka also fell one position lower and is now 23rd in the category up to 73 kilograms.

Erza Muminović has made big progress in the ranking, has moved up ten places, and is now ranked 68th in the category up to 52 kg. Among men, Akil Gjakova is 50th in the category up to 73 kg.

The world ranking of judo serves to ensure the Olympic norm and also to determine the participants in future competitions.

It should be noted that at the World Championship held last week in Doha, Qatar, our judokas failed to win any medals.
